Homemade cranberry sauce
I decided to share another fairly easy recipe since cranberry sauce is a staple for many families during the holidays. And in my opinion, homemade is always better than canned stuff.
4 cups (1 12 ounce bag of fresh or frozen cranberries).
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of orange juice
1 cup of sugar (this can be adjusted if you like your cranberry sauce more tart).
1 teaspoon orange zest (optional).
Rinse the cranberries in a colander and discard any bad ones.
Add the sugar, orange juice, and water to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
Add the cranberries to the saucepan and return to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until most of the cranberries have burst. Add the orange zest if you chose to use it.
Other add-ins that can be used are cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice. If you choose to use any of those spices, just start with a pinch of them.
